The challenge
A national retailer was refitting twelve stores on a rolling programme across the South West and Midlands. Each site needed identical infrastructure — wireless AP cabling, CCTV backbone and a small comms cabinet — installed to one standard so their IT partner could deploy equipment without site-specific variations.
The main contractor required a cabling subcontractor who could hold a master template for containment, labelling and test thresholds across every location.
Programme & mobilisation
We delivered sites on a rolling four-week cycle over a 14-week rollout window:
- Weeks 1–2 — Template sign-off: cabinet layout, AP locations, CCTV backbone routes, labelling convention
- Weeks 3–12 — Three sites per month average — survey, install, test, handover pack per store
- Weeks 13–14 — Snag closure and template update for any client IT feedback
Each site handover included the same PDF structure so the client’s IT partner could commission switches and APs without re-interpreting documentation.
Technical scope
- Cat6A cabling to 96 wireless access point locations across twelve sites (8 APs per store average)
- Dedicated CCTV backbone links from each sales floor to the local comms cabinet
- 12no wall-mounted comms cabinets — racks, patching and labelling to master template
- Switch mounting rails and structured cable dressing ready for the client’s IT partner
- Fluke certification on every copper link — same pass thresholds at every site
Standards & handover
Per-site handover packs included:
- Outlet and AP location schedule (aligned to client floor plan grid)
- Cabinet elevation and patch schedule
- Fluke certification PDFs per outlet ID
- Photos of cabinet dressing for QA records
Outcome
All twelve sites handed over within the 14-week rollout window. The client’s IT partner reported zero cabling-related delays during equipment commissioning.
