The challenge

A fit-out specialist needed a comms room built from shell-and-core within a six-week programme. The room had to meet the client’s bonding, containment and labelling standards before their own IT team could rack switches and storage.

The client’s specification required TIA-606-B labelling, colour-coded patching, bonded racks and a documented handover pack — no outstanding punch-list items on cabling scope at PC.

Programme & coordination

We worked as the specialist cabling and comms room subcontractor under the fit-out package:

  • Week 1 — Site survey, rack layout approval, containment first-fix
  • Weeks 2–3 — Rack install, bonding, basket tray and vertical managers
  • Weeks 4–5 — Cat6A patching (420 links), OM4 backbone between core and edge racks
  • Week 6 — PDU fit-out, dressing, testing, documentation and joint sign-off

Power final connections were coordinated with the appointed electrical contractor. IT equipment install was sequenced immediately after our handover.

Technical scope

  • 14no 42U racks — levelled, bonded and dressed to documented standard
  • Hot/cold aisle containment — overhead tray routes and vertical managers
  • Cat6A patching — 420 links with colour-coded labelling to port schedule
  • OM4 backbone — patching between core and edge racks
  • PDU installation — cable management to M&E specification
  • Testing — Fluke certification on all copper links

Standards & handover

Handover documentation included:

  • Rack elevation drawings (as-built)
  • Patch schedules aligned to test database
  • Fluke certification PDFs per link
  • PDU layout and cable schedule
  • TIA-606-B labelling register

Outcome

Room signed off by the main contractor and client’s IT team on the same day. Zero punch-list items on the cabling scope at handover. Active equipment was installed within 48 hours of our completion.

This reflects our server room and comms build delivery — structured copper patching included via our data cabling capability.
